About me

Carrie Bates

Growing up with dogs, I have always loved and felt a great affinity towards them. My modern training system is full of fun techniques that will give you and your pet a happier life together.

I qualified as a Dog Training Instructor with the Cambridge Institute of Dog Behaviour Training (CIDBT) in 2013. Carrie Bates Dog Training was founded the same year and since has developed a special reputation with many dogs and their owners in Huntingdon. I believe that having a clear set of boundaries is one thing but being fierce is just not necessary. I don’t believe in choke collars or other aversive tools or techniques as the way to teach an animal discipline.

I am a full member of IMDT, IMDTB and a member of Pet Professional Network, both of which have a strict code of conduct supporting positive, force-free, scientific approaches to dog training and behaviour.

Dogs, like most other animals, are social creatures, who enjoy love and family life. My modern training system is full of fun techniques that will give you and your pet a happier life together.

  1. Hi Carrie. Do you run regular pack walks? Our 18 month old Lab Daisy loves to play with other dogs and socialise. Our 7 year old Lab Barley is less keen. He tolerates her really well and does zoom with her but it would be nice for her to have regular meet and greets with others! Thanks.

    1. Hi Amanda, thanks for getting in touch. I have cut down my pack walks recently due to an increase in demand for training. However, I do still take a small group of very local dogs on Monday and Thursday morning and lunch time. I am based at Hinchingbrooke in Huntingdon, so if you are nearby, Daisy could join us. If you wanted to come along with her, then you are most welcome to join us. I have been considering starting a pack walk with owners where I can share my knowledge of dog behaviour to help owners understand their and other dogs’ interactions and give general advice. If you would be interested in any of these, please do let me know and we can discuss how to go about arranging something. Many thanks, Carrie

      1. Hi Carrie. We are in Spaldwick so Hinchingbrooke is fine. We could sometimes make the Thursday walk but it can often be a busy (golf!) day. We would be very interested in your concept of a walk with advice and could also bring Barley to something like that perhaps? Thanks, Amanda

      2. Ok, that’s great. If you let me know when you have a free Thursday, we can arrange to meet. I am normally out around midday. Meanwhile, I’ll get myself organised with planning regular group walk and talks. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Many thanks, Carrie

      1. Hi Carrie Ted is 16 months old and my phone number is 07854 7056963 Regards Peter

    1. Hi Peter, it looks likely I can start classes on Sunday 26th but I am waiting for confirmation from the head ranger at the park. The cost is ÂŁ15 per class and there are six classes in the course. If you pay upfront or attend the first five, the last one is free.
Would you be interested in the puppy, adult or advanced classes?

      Many thanks,
      Carrie

      1. Hi Carrie How far are you from Sawtry as we might pay for a 1:1 to improve his social skills Peter

      2. Hi Peter, I’m based in Huntingdon so can come to Sawtry. I charge 45p per mile after the first 5miles. What would you like to achieve with 1:1 ? Thanks Carrie

      3. Sorry, I realised that seems like a stupid question when you have said you want to improve his social skills but I mean in addition to that
